Property Story
The Protected Property, known as Gooseville Creek Farms, is located within the Southeast Glacial Plains ecological landscape and the North Branch Milwaukee River watershed in the Lake Michigan Basin, and is situated within the agricultural and suburbanizing Hwy 57 corridor.
The Beverly residence was established in 1993 on previously purchased the property. The site consists of a house, garage, steel barn, old pump house, remnant silos and barn foundation, mound system, well and an excavated pond. The agricultural land uses include an orchard, a former fenced sheep pasture (including an underground watering system). Native plant communities on the property include approximately 18 acres of southern mesic forest, 19 acres of coniferous forested seeps, 3 acres of southern hardwood swamp, 4 acres of floodplain forest, 15 acres of scrub shrub wetlands, and 4 acres of old field habitat. Natural spring seeps are scattered throughout the south facing hillside, creating microcosm coniferous forested seep habitats. These rare communities serve as the headwaters for the North Branch of Gooseville Creek as it winds its way west to the approximately 650-675 feet of main stem Gooseville Creek on the Beverly property. Trails and farm lanes are maintained throughout the property for passive recreation and property management.
