Dick Conservation Easement

    County:    Sheboygan
Lot size:    4.85 acres
Established:    12/29/2000

Property story

This property in the Mullet River and Sheboygan River watersheds falls within the topography of the Kettle Moraine State Forest northern unit, an excellent example of former continental glacial activity. The Kettle Moraine State Forest, considered a Southeast Glacial Plaines Ecological Landscape, has been given substantial protection and the highest conservation significance in the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources’ Wisconsin Land Legacy Report. The bedrock geology is a Niagara Dolomite and the soils are a sandy loamy till that are moderately well draining. The property adjoins the Old Plank Road Trail, which is a former Native American and settlers trail between Sheboygan and Greenbush. Pre-settlement vegetative cover would have been Sugar Maple, Basswood, Red Oak, White Oak, and Black Oak trees.

In 2016 this property was purchased by the Ice Age Trail and gifted to the WiDNR to be used only for conservation, open space, scenic and recreational purposes.
