Chris BoryChris is happy to be home on the western shore of Lake Michigan and the northern Kettle Moraine. Born and raised in Southwest Baltimore, he moved to Philadelphia after high school. Next came a move with his now-wife to Milwaukee, eventually settling in Sheboygan County. When Chris’s culinary career came to an abrupt end in early 2020, essential work in skilled labor led to tech school.
Chris graduated with a Technical Diploma in Horticulture from the Wisconsin Technical College System and transferred to University of Wisconsin Green Bay. He graduated with a B.S. in Environmental Policy and Planning with Minors in Geography, Sustainability, and Global Studies, and with Certifications in GIS and Foundations of Education. As an undergrad, Chris traveled to Ecuador to study land use in the Andes and Galapagos and to southern Mexico to study atmospheric science. He interned with Green Bay Botanical Garden, Maywood Environmental Park, and UWGB as an intern with the Pride Center, the Natural and Applied Sciences Greenhouse, and the Cofrin Center for Biodiversity. As staff of the CCB, Chris has supported the Freshwater Collaborative of Wisconsin and is grateful to have worked with the Oneida Nation and Menominee Nation. He is a member the Wisconsin Association for Environmental Education and serves on the Planning Committee for the WAEE 2026 Annual Conference. His environmentalist mindset started with the Treasure the Chesapeake campaign. It was cemented on a whitewater rafting trip to West Virginia, seeing rivers running the rich orange unique to mining runoff. This moment led to a lifelong curiosity about the relationships between human and non-human life and inspiring the choice to become an individual signatory of the Earth Charter. Outside of environmental work, Chris enjoys time spent with his son and wife. He participates in ice hockey, swimming, and maintains a residential “pocket-prairie” registered as Certified Wildlife Habitat with the National Wildlife Federation. He enjoys travel, food, red wine, and has a robust love of coffee. |
