Introduction:
Glacial Lakes Conservancy, Inc. (GLC) is a private, non-profit land conservation organization. The Conservancy offers land conservation options, organizational support, and technical guidance to landowners and organizations in Sheboygan, Manitowoc, Kewaunee, Calumet and Fond du Lac counties. GLC currently stewards 304 acres across five properties: William F. Christel Woods and Wetlands Preserve, Grasshopper Hill Preserve, Charles & Winifred Spring West Twin River Preserve, and Willow Creek Preserve, and protects an additional 1,744 acres with 28 conservation easements throughout our five county service area.
Executive Director, Jennifer Rutten, Land Project Coordinator & Willow Creek Preserve Project Manager, Isabel Mueller, Land Project Coordinator, Miriam Headrick and a dedicated, all-volunteer Board of Directors, spearhead GLC’s land and water protection mission.
Duties:
Intern will work with GLC staff on a wide range of land management tasks on Willow Creek Preserve, including, but not limited to:
Schedule:
Twenty hours per week from June into September 2022. (12 weeks) Some duties, particularly volunteer work parties or committee meetings, will take place on nights or weekends. This position is based on Willow Creek Preserve and in GLC’s office, both of which are in Sheboygan, WI. This internship is paid through grant funding.
Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

- Site monitoring and reporting
- Plan, promote, and facilitate volunteer stewardship activities on site
- Habitat maintenance and restoration activities, including invasive species control
- Site maintenance activities
- Special projects as appropriate
- Attend committee meetings as needed

Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
This position seeks a university student enrolled in a natural science program. Other requirements include the following:
- Positive attitude and constructive problem solving skills
- Ability to maintain accurate records and communicate clearly with staff and volunteers as needed
- Ability to maintain an awareness of site conditions and anticipate potential risks in the field
- Ability to hike up to 5 miles in a day, up steep hillsides through brush, occasionally crossing water. Ability to work outside in inclement weather
- Ability to reliably make it to the Conservancy’s office at scheduled meeting times, with appropriate personal field clothing and gear for site visits
