Happy New Year to All! As your new GLC President, I am so grateful for all of you for your continued support of our organization. The Board and Staff of GLC are well aware that we would not be able to continue our important work without the generosity of your financial gifts along with the willingness of so many of you to donate your time in support of our projects and events. We will all continue to do our best to earn your confidence!
This is truly an exciting time for GLC! 2025 will see several large projects get underway at Willow Creek, the largest of our five preserves, located in Sheboygan. These include restoration work in the “Central Pond” area, work along the gully parallel to Mary’s Lane and an extensive effort to remove invasive species on the property. The invasive species project, in particular, will encompass several years and will greatly change the complexion of parts of the property. Even though things may appear stark at first, know that this process is part of the long-term management plan for the property and is necessary to reach our goals of a resilient native plant community that will provide for increased wildlife habitat, along with protection of our soil, surface water and groundwater resources. As you might have guessed, all of the activities at Willow Creek, as well as projects at our four remaining preserves, will provide for great opportunities to get out onto the land as we continue to control invasive species, monitor wildlife and test surface water quality. So, as “cabin fever” sets in during some of these dark winter days, look forward to spring and make a resolution to set aside some time to join us on the land in 2025. It’s a resolution worth keeping! Peter Pittner Board President |
